The Advanced Materials for Sustainable Future Technologies research unit focuses on synthesizing new nanocatalysts, electrolytes, electrodes, and membranes, testing these materials in next-generation devices. Additionally, the Research Unit studies biotechnological processes that are technically feasible and economically accessible, based on cyanobacteria, green algae, anaerobic archaea, methanogens, and acetogens for the production of high-value-added compounds. By exploiting specific metabolic characteristics, it enables the development of innovative biotechnological reactors to convert polluting greenhouse gases, such as CO2, and other waste into industrially relevant chemicals and green fuels.
